Organisms of Colonization

(installation / performance)
2018

Organisms of Colonization is a sound performance and installation that evokes an event of colonization. A social state apparatus by means of its organisms colonizes a community in freedom. It is the continuation of my last works, which explore the body as a medium to provoke sound and the dualism between manipulative and manipulated body.

This performative piece is essentially influenced by concepts and thoughts exposed by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari along with Eduardo Galeano’s statements about the Colonization of Latin America. I related and linked abstractions such as ‘Body’, ‘Organism’, ‘Body without Organs’ and ‘Event of Colonization’ with the Religion and Education machinery within the frame of the process of colonization.

Performance at the University of Arts in Bremen - Music faculty building - 2018

"Organisms of Colonization" performance, presented at the music building of the University of Art in Bremen, was divided into three phases, namely ‘Harmony, Chaos and Silence’, which are marked by the sound. The phases illustrate and represent the process of colonization. Four performers produce sound with their voices while the other four performers manipulate and control the outcome of the sound produced by the voices.

Installation exhibited at the HFK-Jahresausstellung 2019

The exhibition at HFK - Jahresaustellung edition 2019 was the opportunity to present "Organisms of Colonization" as an installation. In this particular arrangement, the visitor interacts with a computer keyboard to control the sound produced by four megaphones. At the same time, every single interaction with the keyboard displays (on four monitors) a single vowel from the german alphabet. Harmonic voices (in varied tones) can be heard singing the vowels one at a time or simultaneously according to the visitor's input.
